LIMERICK FC will face St Patrick’s Athletic in the final of the EA Sports Cup next month after the Inchicore side defeated Shamrock Rovers 3-1 in their EA Sports Cup semi-final on Monday night.
Liam Buckley’s St Pat’s side hit back from going a goal behind in the opening half to run out comfortable winners at Tallaght and earn a Saturday, September 17 final meeting with Limerick FC.
The venue and kick-off time for the final which will be shown live on eirSport is expected to be confirmed this week.
Limerick FC Chairman Pat O’Sullivan says Limerick deserves to host the prestigious final.
O’Sullivan said: “Limerick FC, with what it has done in the First Division this season and also our city deserves to have this final played here. That is what we want.”
First Division high-flyers Limerick FC secured their final place thanks to an impressive 1-0 victory over Derry City at the Brandywell on Bank Holiday Monday night.
Stephen Kenny scored the game’s only goal for the three-time League Cup winners.
Limerick’s last success in the EA Sports Cup final was in 2002 when the side managed by Noel O’Connor defeated Derry Cup in a penalty shoot-out at the Brandywell.
