LIMERICK athlete Jenna Bromell will compete in the heats of the 400m at the IAAF World U20 Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland this Tuesday evening.
Emerald AC athlete Bromell goes in the fourth of six heats at 6.34pm Irish time. Bromell set a new personal best of 53.97 for the 400m earlier this season.
The first three athletes home in each heat, plus the six fastest losers, will qualify for the semi-finals of the championships, previously known as the World Junior Championships, on Wednesday afternoon.
Bromell, who turned 19 last month, broke the Irish junior indoor record for the 400 metres, when a blistering run of 54.19 seconds saw her claim gold at the national championships held in Athlone at the end of January.
That record-breaking performance earned the UL student the Limerick Young Sports Star Award for January.
The chemical engineering student at UL is from Ballyneety, but now lives in Castetroy.
Meanwhile, two more Limerick athletes, Ciara Neville, of Emerald AC, and Lauren Ryan, of Dooneen, are part of the women’s squad which competes in the 4x100m heats on Friday at 5pm Irish time.
