Limerick District in trophy final at Kennedy Cup

THE Limerick District Schoolboy League (LDSL) will face Dundalk in the Trophy final at the 2016 Kennedy Cup at UL this Friday, 10.30am.

The LDSL defeated the Inishowen League 1-0 on Thursday to reach the final against the Co Louth side. Filip Mostowy, of Limerick FC, grabbed the all-important goal for the Limerick side in the opening half.

The winners of the Trophy final will claim a 25th-place finish at the 32-team Kennedy Cup competition.

Meanwhile, the Desmond League, who topped Group 2 which included local rivals the LDSL, claimed an excellent eighth-place finish at the Kennedy Cup.

The Desmond League’s hopes of a top five finish ended with two 1-0 defeats to Wexford and 2015 winners Kerry on Thursday.

The Limeick County finished in 29th place in the U-14 interleague competition with successive wins over the West Waterford/East Cork (WWEC) and North Eastern Counties (NEC) Leagues on Thursday.

Ben Coleman, of Cappamore Celtic, and Charleville’s Enda Sheedy scored County’s goals in their 2-0 victory over the WWEC League. County made it back-to-back wins when edging the NEC 1-0, with Sheedy again on target.
