Flying Limerick host Galway in EA Sports Cup quarter-final

IN-FORM Limerick FC host Galway United in a glamour EA Sports Cup quarter-final at the Markets Field on Tuesday night, 7.15pm.

Martin Russell’s Limerick side sit 12 points clear at the top of the SSE Airtricity League First Division after winning each of their 9 opening league fixtures.

The in-form John O’Flynn brought his tally of goals this season to 11 in all competitions with a first half hat-trick in the 7-2 demolition of Waterford Utd at the Markets Field on Saturday night.

An impressive 1,457 spectators turned out to watch the First Division fixture at the Garryowen venue.

The Blues reached the last eight of the EA Sports Cup thanks to an impressive 4-0 home win over an understrength Wexford Youths side in the previous round.

Earlier, Limerick had defeated First Division Cobh Ramblers 4-2.

Limerick are three-time winners of the League Cup, most recently in April 2002.

Visitors Galway Utd have made an impressive start to their Premier Division campaign and currently sit in fourth place in the top flight table.

Striker Vinny Faherty, who returned to his home town club from Limerick during the closed season, has been in excellent goal-scoring form for the Eamonn Deacy Park side in recent weeks.
