Young Munster beat Old Crescent in Cup semi-final

Young Munster beat Old Crescent in Cup semi-final

Young Munster will take on Cork Con in this season’s Munster Senior Cup final after they beat Old Crescent by 29-14 in Saturday’s semi-final on the 4G pitch in UL.

The final will be a repeat of the AIL semi-final last week, a game Con won thanks to two late tries.

With 25 minutes to go Young Munster led 29-0 with tries from schools player Calvin Nash, Tommy Goggin, Alan Ross, Mark Doyle and Shane Gleeson. Jack Lyons kicked two conversions.

Showing great courage and dogged determination, Old Crescent lifted their game and were rewarded with a fine try by Larry Hanly, another from Sean Fitzgerald and two conversions by Shane O’Brien.

The final is expected to be in two weeks time when Con could be going for a treble success. They beat Galwegians in the Bateman Cup final today, play Clontarf in the AIL final next week and then Young Munster in the Munster Senior Cup final. Indeed it has been quite a successful season for the Cork club as they also won the All Ireland U-20 Cup and meet Young Munster in Sunday’s Munster Senior Seconds final.
