Southend held at home to leave play-off race alive for another week

Southend missed a chance to clinch their National League play-off spot as they were held to a 0-0 draw with Solihull.

Victory would have secured a top-seven finish but the Shrimpers saw their three-match winning run come to an end, leaving them needing two more points from their remaining four games to mathematically ensure finishing above Halifax.

Southend went close when Harry Taylor’s flick was sent into the path of Gus Scott-Morriss however his effort was saved by visiting goalkeeper Laurie Walker.

But mid-table Solihull had a couple of golden chances themselves to record a shock away win.

Moors midfielder Darius Lipsiuc saw his effort hit the crossbar while Calum McFarlane had a chance saved by Southend keeper Collin Andeng-Ndi before the follow up was sent over the bar.
