Bromley boss Andy Woodman: We’ll make sure we keep taking care of our business

Andy Woodman was not too downhearted that Bromley’s promotion party was put on hold following a 2-1 defeat at second-placed MK Dons.

Victory for the Ravens would have secured a place in League One for next season, but the Dons took the lead inside the opening minute when Nathaniel Mendez-Laing intercepted Mitch Pinnock’s under-hit pass, charged forward and fired home a low strike.

Ben Wiles doubled MK Dons’ lead after 16 minutes when he scored from close range from Gethin Jones’ cross.

But their progress was hindered when Jon Mellish was sent off in the 67th minute for his part in a melee, and Bromley grabbed a goal back as Marcus Ifill’s strike found the top corner.

MK Dons held on, however, winning a first game in five and cutting Bromley’s lead to four points.

Woodman was unhappy with his side’s first-half display, but said they would now look to get promotion done in the final three games.

He said: “It was no brilliant play by them, just a gift we gave them, then we gave them another gift and did look all over the place.

“If we’re being honest, it could have been four or five. I’m not that arrogant to think we did well in the first half – we were miles off it.

“We made the changes at half-time, threw caution to the wind and we looked a bit more like ourselves second half. Their keeper pulled off a brilliant save and a stonewall penalty, the ref didn’t give.

“The plan now is to keep doing what we’ve been doing all season. We’ve got two home games, one away and we’ve just got to make sure we keep taking care of our business.

“There’s a lot of football to be played still and four or five clubs who would love to be where we are.”

MK Dons boss Paul Warne was pleased to see his side hold on with 10 men.

“The last 15-20 minutes were tight, hard work,” Warne said. “I thought first half we were really good in possession and created so many chances. We could have been four up and that’s not over-flattering us.

“We were really good first half, the best of us, and second half they made changes, changed their shape and put it on us.

“I thought we rode the storm pretty well for 20 minutes and we didn’t have much to worry about apart from the set-pieces.

“Then the sending-off is obviously a massive turning point, they score a few minutes after and I’m like everyone else – you start to fear the worst and see it slowly slipping through your fingers.

“Generally, really pleased with the performance and win and it sets us up nicely for the last three.”
