York edge closer to Football League return after win at Tamworth

York moved one step closer to a return to the Football League for the first time in a decade after edging out in-form Tamworth 1-0 at the Lamb Ground.

The Minstermen threatened early when Mark Kitching was denied by Jas Singh but the Tamworth goalkeeper was beaten in the 27th minute when Ollie Pearce prodded home a loose ball in the area.

Either side of half-time, Malachi Fagan-Walcott kept York ahead with a terrific goal-line block before Harrison Male produced an excellent save after Teo Kurtaran was played through one-on-one.

Jeff King thumped against the bar but while York failed to give themselves a cushion, they held on to end Tamworth’s four-match unbeaten run.
