Lee Clark takes ‘lots of positives’ from Rotherham’s draw against Stevenage

Rotherham manager Lee Clark feels his players gave everything in their goalless draw with Stevenage.

Clark took charge for the first time at home, but his side could not get the decisive goal to kickstart their hopes of an increasingly unlikely Sky Bet League One survival.

Dan Gore picked up two yellow cards as the Millers finished the game with 10 men.

Clark now has seven games to turn fortunes around at Rotherham, who sit nine points adrift of safety, but he remains positive.

He said: “The application, desire, passion and attitude of the players was absolutely spot on.

“We have kept a clean sheet, but the small criticism is that we could have been better in the final third.

“We were trying to do the hardest thing in the game which is score and create good chances. We had some great situations with good combinations.

“There are lots of positives to take from the game against a very strong team in the division.

“Every game we need to win. We know that. We are in such a situation that points are not really going to help us.

“We have to take positives because of what has gone on before and the players couldn’t have given me any more.

“With a little bit more luck, if we carry on with that level of performance, hopefully we can get the wins that will secure our safety.

“All I have tried to drill into them is that they are good players. They should believe that.

“I have seen the confidence and the belief coming back into them.”

There were few chances in the game, but the best of them probably fell the way of the home side.

Duncan Watmore will think he could have done better with an early chance after the ball fell to him kindly in the box.

Stevenage finished the game the better, but could not get the winner.

Harvey White lashed a good opening over the crossbar and a late scramble failed to materialise with a golden chance.

The point keeps Stevenage firmly in the hunt for a play-off spot.

Manager Alex Revell said: “What you have to look at is that this Rotherham side are fighting for their lives.

“I think we didn’t get the start that we wanted but we grew into the game.

“We should have taken the chance that falls to us at the end.

“We are disappointed because you want to win and keep pressure on the teams above you, but we have got a clean sheet and a point.

“We will see in a few weeks if it’s a good result.

“No game is easy. We have come away with a point from a tough game in tough conditions.

“Are we disappointed? Absolutely, but we refocus for Monday.”
