York get promotion bid back on track with narrow win over Woking

Ollie Pearce’s penalty saw promotion-chasing York return to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over Woking.

York were surprisingly beaten by Gateshead in midweek but bounced back with a deserved victory at the LNER Community Stadium to stay three points behind leaders Rochdale.

Woking goalkeeper Will Jaaskelainen was a busy man in the early stages, making saves to deny Josh Stones twice and Ollie Banks, while Ben Brookes, Pearce and Jeff King also had good chances.

Woking hung on until the 74th minute when, after King had been pushed over in the box, the prolific Pearce slotted home from the spot.
