Striker Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan scored his first senior hat-trick as Reading stunned Luton with a 3-2 victory at Kenilworth Road.
The hosts took the lead from their first attack, Isaiah Jones getting his back header all wrong for Ehibhatiomhan to prod home.
It was almost 2-0 when Kamari Doyle was denied by Josh Keeley. Midway through the half Luton midfielder Jordan Clark clipped the crossbar from range.
Reading almost doubled their advantage after 32 minutes when Doyle’s 20-yard effort was brilliantly turned behind by Keeley, who made an even better stop from the attacker shortly afterwards.
Luton levelled on the stroke of half-time when Emilio Lawrence’s tantalising cross was turned in by Nigel Lonwijk.
Town made it 2-1 in the 53rd minute as George Saville powered home Clark’s corner with a downward header and Nahki Wells then hit the bar before the hosts’ defence crumbled.
Joe Johnson’s mistake saw Matt Ritchie’s superb cross headed home by Ehibhatiomhan after 81 minutes and Kal Naismith was caught on the ball inside his own area as Ehibhatiomhan completed his treble to win it three minutes later.
