Charles Vernam on target as Bromley held by Grimsby

Sky Bet League Two leaders Bromley were held to a draw for the fifth time in their last six outings as they shared the points in a 1-1 draw with Grimsby at Blundell Park.

The hosts started well, with the in-form Charles Vernam having an effort cleared off the line in the third minute as he met Kieran Green’s cross.

It was the league leaders who opened the scoring, as Nicke Kabamba profited on some misfortune at the back to slot into an empty net in the 28th minute.

Grimsby responded instantly from the penalty spot as Jude Arthurs handled the ball in the box, allowing Vernam to equalise three minutes later.

Bromley goalkeeper Grant Smith did well to deny Jaze Kabia twice in quick succession past the hour mark as the hosts pushed for the lead.

Grimsby’s Jackson Smith was called into action inside the final 10 minutes to make a great diving stop from Ashley Charles’ on-target free-kick.

Smith was on form again to save Omar Sowumni’s header in stoppage time as the points were shared.
