Wycombe assistant manager Alex Morris admitted he “doesn’t know all the details” after head coach Michael Duff was sent off in the Chairboys’ 3-0 home victory against Burton.
The former Swansea and Huddersfield boss was given a red card during the break following an incident that occurred in the tunnel.
It is not known what was said or happened during the break.
Despite his absence from the touchline, Wycombe went on to secure their sixth win in 11 games in 2026, as well as their 11th victory in 18 at Adams Park this season.
Taking over post-match media duties, Morris said: “It all came about during half-time. We don’t know all the details as we haven’t had a chance to discuss that yet.
“When it came to light that he wasn’t able to come out for the second half, we made adjustments in how we could communicate any messages he wanted to relay on to the pitch.
“We don’t know why. He wasn’t allowed to watch it from the stands, so he ended up watching it in the changing room, which comes with challenges, as there was a three-second delay on the game.
“We found a way to communicate.”
On the game, Morris said: “I am really pleased as Burton are a top team, and I think they will be fine this season.
“Gary (Bowyer) is a good manager, and they are comfortable with how they are playing, but we found a way, and now we can attack the back end of the season.”
The Chairboys took the lead after 15 minutes when Caolan Boyd-Munce scored a stunning strike from 35 yards.
Boyd-Munce nearly scored another screamer in the second half when his bending effort crashed off the crossbar.
The victory was eventually sealed inside the last 10 minutes when Luke Harris and Nathan Lowe each secured within a minute of each other.
Morris added: “To score in quick succession when the game is in the balance is very pleasing and they are different type of goals as well.
“That settled us down.”
Burton went into the contest unbeaten in four but struggled to create any clear-cut chances.
Manager Gary Bowyer said: “We went 1-0 down because of a worldie so fair play to the lad, but that came from our throw where we should have locked it in where we didn’t.
“Jake Beesley had a great chance and at half-time, we demanded for more urgency.
“There was nothing in the game, but then it’s 2-0 due to a goalkeeping error which you can’t legislate for but I am more disappointed with the third strike as it is just one long punt up field.
“I am really disappointed with that.”
