Matt Phillips’ first Stevenage goal secures points against Stockport

Matt Phillips’ first goal for Stevenage earned his side a 2-1 win over Stockport.

Winger Phillips left Oxford just after the close of the January transfer window and chose to move to Boro a few weeks later.

This was his fourth game and after Harvey White and Jamie Reid combined down the right, he turned in the latter’s low cross in the 57th minute.

It was a come-from-behind success for Alex Revell’s men, who are now just one point off the play-off places.

Stockport striker Adama Sidibeh forced Filip Marschall to push a header away from the top corner, and he was first to the resulting corner as well, glancing it home from in front of the keeper.

The lead lasted six minutes as Boro skipper Carl Piergianni’s headed home from a corner.

There were only a few chances after Phillips had his moment. Malik Mothersille’s tame effort was claimed by Marschall as Stevenage closed out another home win, their fourth in succession.
