Stenhousemuir beat Cove Rangers to narrow gap at League One summit

Stenhousemuir beat Cove Rangers 1-0 to narrow the gap at the top of William Hill League One to three points as leaders Inverness were held away to struggling Kelty Hearts.

Olly Whyte scored the only goal for the Warriors in the 32nd minute, capitalising on a slip in the Cove defence to hit a shot into the corner of the net.

And that has Stenhousemuir in touching distance of top spot after Inverness were frustrated in Kelty, where the hosts made it four straight draws in their fight against the drop.

Paul Allan, Calum MacLeod and Jordan Allonge all had chances for the visitors but the Hearts stood strong for a result that keeps them four points behind Hamilton, who drew 1-1 with Montrose.

Kieran Freeman put the visitors in front three minutes before the break but Lee Kilday levelled for Hamilton just after the hour.

Alloa are six points behind Inverness after a 2-0 win at East Fife, where Callum Burnside struck 50 seconds in before Charlie Dewar made sure in the second half.

Fourth-placed Queen of the South lost a third game on the bounce as they went down 2-0 to Peterhead, who got goals from Kieran Shanks and Jason Brown.

League Two leaders East Kilbride came from behind to win 3-1 at third-placed Clyde, who led at the break through Logan Dunachie before Joao Balde, Bobby McLuckie and Connor Young hit back.

Marc McNulty scored a hat-trick, two of them penalties, as second-placed Spartans kept pace five points back with a 4-0 rout of Annan.

Mark Stowe got Spartans’ other goal against an Annan side who played almost half the match with 10 men after Darryl Carrick’s 47th-minute red card.

Kyle Girvan’s 87th-minute strike gave Elgin a 2-1 come-from-behind win at Stranraer after Kane Hester’s 100th goal for the club had cancelled out Dean Cleland’s opener.

Mark Durnan scored a stoppage-time equaliser for Dumbarton as they snatched a 1-1 draw at Stirling, who had led through Russell McLean’s first-half penalty.

The result keeps Dumbarton two points clear of basement boys Edinburgh City, who drew 0-0 at home to Forfar.
