Kevin Nolan insists Northampton “will be OK” this season if they produce more performances like the one in the 1-1 draw against rivals Peterborough.
Tom Eaves headed the Cobblers into a deserved lead late in the first half but they were pegged back by Jimmy-Jay Morgan just seven minutes after the break.
The home side then had the better chances to win it but they could not convert and remain in the League One relegation zone.
“We’ve been playing well but we haven’t been getting the results and that’s what I’ve just said to the lads,” said Nolan.
“I’m frustrated because we had two clear-cut chances to win it in the second half – I think Terry (Taylor) got a nosebleed when he went through.
“I don’t think anyone can question that we’re all together and we’re all trying and we are giving it a right go.
“We all believe we’ll be where we need to be at the end of the season but you have to go and prove it and how hard they’ve worked in the last few days is how you prove it.
“They’ve gone through the mill playing Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday and they’ve shown their togetherness and their fitness and that’s why they were able to go out and perform like that today.
“What we have to do now is use this as a start and get back to where we were a couple of months back in terms of dominating teams and getting chances and putting chances away.
“If we play like that between now and the end of the season, we will be OK.”
Peterborough manager Luke Williams said: “It was a patchy performance. There was some very good stuff and some not so good stuff, but I thought we were worthy of a point.
“It was disappointing to concede so late in the first half but we came out really well after half-time.
“There was a lot of anxiety around the game with it being a derby and I’m not sure either team dealt with it brilliantly and I think that’s quite common for a derby.
“Kyrell (Lisbie) was a threat throughout the game and he got it just right to create the goal, but the second half was on a knife-edge.
“We lost a lot of territory and there were a couple of errors but we defended the box really well and we looked a threat on the counter-attack and there were a couple of half-chances right at the end.
“It wasn’t the type of performance we wanted but this group has got a lot of good characters and we showed that again today.”
