Safari swoops late for Winter Derby honours

Sky Safari swooped fast and late to claim top honours in the Midnite Winter Derby at Lingfield.

James Fanshawe’s mare was relatively keen at the rear of the closely-grouped five runners, which were taken along by the Ryan Moore-ridden Nebras.

Boiling Point tracked that one, and Sam James opted to put pace into the race over three furlongs out.

At the furlong pole most of them had a chance, but it was Daniel Muscutt and Sky Safari (6-1) who came over the top to deny the heavily-backed Chancellor.
