Tom Naylor bags brace as Chesterfield edge victory at Bristol Rovers

Substitute James Berry had the last word to win an entertaining game as Chesterfield claimed a 3-2 League Two victory over Bristol Rovers at the Memorial Stadium.

Two goals apiece from forward Shaq Forde and midfielder Tom Naylor had the game deadlocked before Berry met Sam Curtis’ deep cross at the far post to guide a volley in with 12 minutes remaining to boost the visitors’ promotion hopes.

The Spireites had started the match brighter and were rewarded when Naylor headed in after three minutes from just a few yards out, set up by Liam Mandeville’s volleyed cross following a corner, with the Rovers defence leaving the veteran midfielder unmarked.

But Rovers came back into the game 25 minutes later when they also kept the ball alive following a corner.

Kofi Balmer flicked the ball on and Riley Harbottle headed back across goal for Forde to head in for his first goal of the league season.

And Forde scored his second as he slotted home after meeting a knockdown header from substitute Joe Quigley inside the box after 58 minutes.

But Naylor then headed in his second of the afternoon three minutes later, meeting a deflected cross from Curtis and looping a header into the far corner.

Berry grabbed the winner to make it back-to-back wins on the road for the Spireites, who remain eighth.
