JPR One chasing Champion gold at Musselburgh

JPR One chasing Champion gold at Musselburgh

JPR One and Rock My Way will make the long journey from Joe Tizzard’s Dorset base to Musselburgh this weekend as they become the trainer’s first runners at the track.

Tizzard is searching for better ground, specifically for JPR One in the bet365 Scottish Champion Chase, with the Edinburgh venue known for producing a decent racing surface at this time of year.

“Musselburgh is the plan, we skipped Cheltenham last weekend because of the ground and hopefully it will be better up there,” said Tizzard.

“I’m not worried about stepping up in trip and if he gets his ground I’m looking forward to running.

“We’ve dipped our toe a few times up in class and not quite made the ground, so we’re looking at going the other way.

“He’s run some lovely races this year, he seems in good form at home so we’re looking forward to it.”

Last year’s winner The Kalooki Kid, Tommy’s Oscar and Insurrection are among the entries for Saturday’s highlight.

Adam Nicol’s Minella Study is one of 11 in the bet365 Scottish Triumph Hurdle.

Sunday’s big race is the bet365 Edinburgh National where Tizzard’s Rock My Way will carry top weight.

“He’ll head up as well so we’ll have two going up there. He’ll have top weight as well but again he’ll be dropping in grade slightly,” said Tizzard.

“He bolted up at Ascot the time before the Welsh National. Chepstow was a bit of a non-event for him as he lost a shoe and missed the break a bit. It might be a long way, the Welsh National, but you don’t tend to get many coming from the back.”

Ahoy Senor is in the Pertemps Qualifier while Harry Derham’s Mossy Fen Road and Nicky Henderson’s 600,000 guineas purchase for the Bamfords, Fantasy World, are among the entries for the bet365 Scottish Supreme Novices’ Hurdle.
