Andy Woodman hails Bromley’s discipline after comeback victory over Crawley

Andy Woodman was delighted with his Bromley side’s strong second half showing to record a 3-1 comeback win over Crawley.

Ryan Loft gave the visitors an early first half lead, but goals from Omar Sowunmi, Idris Odutayo and Michael Cheek ensured Bromley took all three points.

Bromley boss Woodman said: “It took us a long time to get into the game – it was about 39 minutes into the game before we made a tackle, put a mark on the game.

“Once we did, I thought we were very good. We are a very fit team and in the second half we stepped up the intensity and put Crawley to the sword.”

He added: “If teams come to Bromley and want to play out from the back, you have to get it right, and I thought we were excellent in our discipline in picking the right moments of when to press and induce the mistake.

“When we are on our game and everyone is on the same page, it will always be very hard to deal with a Bromley side.”

It took nine minutes for Crawley to take the lead, former Bromley man Harry McKirdy crossing for Loft to head home.

Corey Whitely could have equalised on the quarter hour when he seized on a Crawley error, but his effort shaved the outside of the post.

Bromley drew level just before the interval, Omar Sowunmi bundling in his sixth goal of the season from Mitch Pinnock’s corner.

Immediately after the restart, Cheek missed two golden opportunities to give Bromley the lead, scooping his first effort over the bar and shooting wide with the second.

However, Bromley did not have to wait long to take the lead, with Idris Odutayo’s deflected drive from 20 yards wrong-footing Joseph Wollacott.

Cheek made the game safe 20 minutes from time. Whitely seized on a defensive error, feeding Cheek to side-foot into an empty net.

Crawley manager Scott Lindsey said: “I’ll take responsibility for the tactics I choose tonight, we didn’t look like us and I changed it.

“We tried to let Bromley have the ball but they got too much momentum up the pitch and I changed it. I thought we were OK, first half, but the goal we conceded before half time was criminal.”

He added: “When you give Bromley a goal just before half time, it allows them to get their tails up and second half we were beaten up, we were miles off it. We were second best all over the pitch.

“Congratulations to them, they got their game plan spot on.”
