Promotion-chasing Huddersfield were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by Northampton at Sixfields in League One.
Leo Casltedine cancelled out Nesta Guinness-Walker’s superb volley in an even first half before a scrappy second yielded very little in the way of clear-cut chances.
Cobblers goalkeeper Ross Fitzsimons gathered a low shot from Huddersfield midfielder Marcus Harness early on.
But Northampton struck first with a spectacular opener in the ninth minute when Guinness-Walker thundered home a volley from Conor McCarthy’s cross.
Dion Charles twice blazed over when well-placed before he provided the assist when Huddersfield levelled nine minutes before half-time, crossing for an unmarked Castledine to head into the corner.
Charles then fluffed his finish after breaking the offside trap late in the first half, lifting well over the bar.
Both teams struggled for fluency and control in a bitty, error-strewn second period.
The best chance fell to Huddersfield substitute Cameron Ashia with 14 minutes to play but he shot too close to Fitzsimons as his side’s winless league run extended to four games.
