Jimmy Thelin looked to the positives after seeing his Aberdeen side pegged back twice to draw 3-3 with St Mirren in an entertaining William Hill Premiership clash at Pittodrie.
The Dons had the better chances in the first half but were perhaps lucky to go in level at the break after Scott Tanser saw a goal ruled out for a foul on goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov.
The visitors took the lead from the penalty spot through Marcus Fraser, but quickfire goals from Dante Polvara and substitute Marko Lazetic had the Dons ahead.
Jonah Ayunga pulled it back to 2-2, but Aberdeen swiftly restored their lead thanks to Lazetic’s second which looked to be the winner before Richard King levelled in the ninth minute of stoppage time.
Thelin said: “After the game there are a lot of emotions. We played maybe our best performance so far. We scored three goals, but to lose a goal in the last second, of course it’s tough.
“I thought the team performed really well the whole game. We talked before the game about the creativity. The goals we scored and the chances we created in both halves, but sometimes this is football. Of course you want to win, but the players performed really well today.
“Three goals at home should be enough, but to be fair to St Mirren they did well in the situation they created at the end. Of course we can learn from it and do better, so we’re disappointed in the result but the performance was good.”
St Mirren’s Stephen Robinson feels the result can be a turning point for his side, even though it extends his side’s run to eight league games without a win.
“The boys showed tremendous character,” he said. “I think that’s the sixth goal disallowed in five games, so it’s easy to feel sorry for yourself and make excuses, which we didn’t.
“We showed great resilience and character, and to score that late on, it feels a bit like a win.
“A draw was a fair result, I would imagine. They score three at home and feel they should win, we score three away and think we should have won.
“It’s a real turning point for us I feel. We’ve played well without getting results and we said to the boys ‘don’t lose’. The subs have come on and made a real impact and we need to go and build on that on Saturday.”
