Danny Rohl wants ‘roller coaster’ ride to end at Rangers after Falkirk stalemate

Rangers head coach Danny Rohl admitted he had a clear picture of what is missing from his squad after a goalless home draw with Falkirk as he focused on ending the “roller coaster” of form.

Rohl saw his winning start to life in the William Hill Premiership come to an end in his fifth league game in charge.

Scott Bain made an excellent one-handed stop from Djeidi Gassama on a Rangers counter-attack midway through the second half but the hosts otherwise struggled to seriously test the Falkirk goalkeeper.

The Bairns had some chances as well and were worth their second point of the season against the Light Blues.

Rohl agreed with a suggestion in his post-match media conference that his squad needed help in January.

And he added: “The group we have at the moment, it’s my job and my responsibility to bring the best out of them.

“You see too many up and downs. With some players you feel they are making the step, and in the next game they take a step back. We are not consistently on the highest point again and again.

“We have too much of a roller coaster. The job when I arrived was about finding a way to win games. This is the first draw. We are disappointed with this performance but for me it’s now week six or seven.

“I have a clear picture of what we are missing at the moment.”

Rohl admitted his side lacked conviction and intensity in their pressing and attacking play.

“We got into some good areas but then our decision-making, finding the next free men, finding the right touch, was not right,” added the German, who has won four out of nine games in all competitions.

“Even in the transition moments, there was a minimum four or five situations where you have the feeling that we can really hurt them and then we turn back or we don’t find the right team-mate.

“Then it slows down the game and you cannot create much on front foot.”

Rohl admitted some players were being hampered by nerves and added: “If you have the belief and 100 per cent confidence, and this should normally be the case after four wins in the league, then it should be easier.

“On the other side, I must also say the opponent had a clear idea how they did and for me it was good to see how they play.”

Falkirk manager John McGlynn was proud of his players but left Ibrox with a feeling that they could have done more to win the game.

“We’re pleased but we feel that we could have done a bit better,” he said.

“It speaks volumes for the players that we are a little bit disappointed that we didn’t use the ball as well as we could have done and had more attempts on goal.

“However, the positives are the clean sheet and the doggedness, determination, effort and desire of the players.

“It’s not like Scott was overworked or had many great saves. I think the last time Falkirk won here was 100 years ago so it’s not easy.”
