Head coach Michael Duff believes Leyton Orient goalkeeper Killian Cahill should have received a red card in Wycombe’s 4-1 victory at Adams Park.
With the Chairboys already 2-1 up thanks to a quickfire brace from Fred Onyedinma, the stopper brought down the Nigerian in a one-on-one situation after 25 minutes.
The winger rounded Cahill and had an open goal to aim for before being tripped outside the area, with referee Martin Woods deciding to award a free-kick and a yellow card.
Dan Casey made it 3-1 five minutes later before Sam Bell wrapped up the win with 15 minutes remaining. Aaron Connolly had levelled from the penalty spot after 11 minutes.
Duff said: “It could have been a pivotal moment in the game.
“Ultimately, if the referee gives a foul there [outside the box with the keeper being the last man], it has to end in one thing: Either play on and give the goal or it’s a red card and a free-kick.
“I don’t think it should have been a yellow card and no goal.
“Fred is very quick and he had an open goal to hit so we were disappointed but, thankfully, it didn’t hurt us.”
Onyedinma notched his fourth and fifth goals of the season in the win, bringing his tally to 34 for the Chairboys across four spells.
During that time, he has been part of three play-off campaigns and Duff wants him to become one of the ‘big players’ at Wycombe.
He added: “Everyone knows what Fred is and what he can be but I’m always told ‘he can’t do 60 minutes, he can’t do Saturday-Tuesday’.
“He’s 28 years old – he’s in the peak of his career and on his day he’s as good as anyone else in this league.
“He’s a big player for us but I want him to be the big player here.”
Leyton Orient manager Richie Wellens was unhappy with his side’s display.
The O’s have now lost eight of their 15 games in the league this season, which includes tasting defeat in five of their previous seven.
Wellens said: “We were poor and we were poor from the start.
“We had a little bit of a good spell when we equalised but, defensively, we were poor.
“We started the second half well, and it looked like we might get something, but a long ball up the pitch, we lose the header, it’s short, and they go through and score.
“Overall, it was really poor and we were really inconsistent. It’s my job to put my finger on it.”
