Celtic add Callum Osmand to European squad after Cameron Carter-Vickers injury

Celtic have added Callum Osmand to their European squad following his first-team breakthrough.

The 19-year-old has replaced the injured Cameron Carter-Vickers ahead of Thursday’s Europa League game with Midtjylland in Denmark.

The former Fulham player was left out of Celtic’s original squad and never featured under Brendan Rodgers following his summer arrival.

However, he has been catapulted into the limelight under interim managers Martin O’Neill and Shaun Maloney.

Osmand made his first-team debut off the bench in Celtic’s 4-0 win over Falkirk last Wednesday and netted his first goal for the club in Sunday’s 3-1 Hampden victory over Rangers in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final.

Celtic have utilised a UEFA rule that allows them to replace long-term injury absentees in their named squad after Carter-Vickers underwent surgery on a damaged Achilles tendon.

The defender suffered the injury during the victory over Sturm Graz in Celtic’s previous Europa League encounter.

A Celtic statement read: “We can confirm that striker Callum Osmand has replaced Cameron Carter-Vickers on our UEFA player list following Cameron’s unfortunate long-term injury.”
