Notts County’s Tyrese Hall was thrilled to score the winner in their 1-0 victory over in-form Barnet.
The Bees dominated large parts of the game but failed to take their chances and were punished in stoppage time when Tottenham loanee Hall pounced on a loose ball after Maz Kouhyar’s shot was blocked.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better result at such a tough place to come,” said Hall.
“We knew what we were going to face and we were probably second best, but the most important thing is we got the three points – I’ll happily take that.”
He added: “That goal meant more to me than my first professional one – doing it in my hometown in front of family and friends, there’s no better feeling.
“Scoring late makes it even sweeter because the longer it goes on, the more tense it gets, and the fans are wondering what’s going to happen.
“That was the toughest game we’ve had this season. Barnet started by going long and we knew we’d have to battle all game. We didn’t play the football we wanted to but the fans gave us that extra motivation.”
Hall also stressed the importance of staying fresh during a hectic schedule, saying: “We’ve played three games this week, so we’ve got to keep the consistency in training and recover properly to stay in the best form possible.”
Barnet boss Dean Brennan was full of praise for his side’s performance despite seeing their five-game unbeaten league run ended.
The Bees slipped to a first league defeat since early September, but Brennan insisted his players gave everything.
“It was an excellent performance, I’m so proud of the lads. They left everything on the pitch. We played a high press, changed the system and adapted really well,” he said.
“The players responded superbly after conceding in the 94th minute. We created pressure, had a few set-pieces late on, but it just didn’t fall for us.”
Brennan acknowledged Hall’s decisive finish, saying: “I’d have liked the shot to ricochet for a corner, but fair play to Hall – it was a great touch and composure.”
Reflecting on Barnet’s missed chances, he added: “We dominated large periods but didn’t take our opportunities. We didn’t bring our shooting boots – that happens. The lads have been brilliant for us, and now it’s about how we respond.
“We got into great areas and their keeper made top saves. Nine times out of 10 we win that game, but credit to Notts County. They stood brave and got the bit of luck.”
