Stephen Dobbie was non-committal about his future as Blackpool’s interim boss after Jack Grimmer snatched Wycombe a 1-1 draw from the gaping jaws of defeat.
The Wanderers skipper’s first goal since February 2024 came in the 12th minute of stoppage time after home defender Michael Ihiekwe was carried off the pitch on a stretcher after a heavy fall.
Grimmer’s strike cancelled out Ashley Fletcher’s goal at the end of the first half to register a ninth draw in 11 meetings between the two teams.
Former Tangerines captain Ian Evatt is tipped to succeed Steve Bruce, potentially before next Saturday’s bottom-four clash at Peterborough.
“I will keep doing the job the club need and we will see what happens over the weekend,” said Dobbie.
“Until I get a phone call that’s where we are (preparing for Peterborough),” added the Scot. “And if anything changes, it changes.
“I have played in games as well when that’s happened,” he said of Wycombe’s dramatic but deserved equaliser.
“I feel more for the players, it’s not for me, because they were the ones who put a lot in.
“And so they are devastated, but so too was the whole stadium,” said Dobbie, who also lost midfielder Albie Morgan to injury.
Ihiekwe was treated on the pitch for around five minutes at the start of added time. And was still being assessed by paramedics as Dobbie gave his post-match reaction.
“Michael landed heavily on his head and neck,” he added. “But I don’t have any update until they have finished.”
Grimmer had already been denied by Northern Ireland international Bailey Peacock-Farrell, whose string of saves kept Blackpool on course for just a third league win of the season.
But he made no mistake with a last-gasp chance presented by Connor Taylor’s assist.
“Jack epitomises the whole club,” said Wycombe boss Michael Duff. “He is the one talking after the game.
“I always give him two or three minutes. He is a leader and opened up a bit on Friday night and told us a couple of things I never knew.
“You always start thinking ‘is time running out’. And we hadn’t worked on Connor Taylor taking a man on on the edge of the box and slipping Jack Grimmer in.
“I can’t take any credit for that. But it (the draw) was definitely deserved.
“Every stat apart from the result, we win. Their xG in the second half was 0.02 per cent and we had chance after chance.
“It showed there is character and quality in the dressing room, but we wait until we go 1-0 down.”
