Brazil winger Savinho has committed his future to Manchester City by signing a two-year contract extension that runs until 2031 with the option of a further 12 months.
The 21-year-old was a transfer target for Tottenham in the summer after his first season with City saw him score three goals and provide 13 assists in 48 appearances, but he now looks to be staying at the Etihad Stadium for many years to come.
“I am incredibly proud to be able to sign this new contract with City,” Savinho said. “It’s a very special feeling to know that Pep (Guardiola) and the club have placed such faith in me. It really
means a lot to me and my family.
“I feel I have so much improving to do – I am still young and very hungry to keep learning. But I know that working with Pep and his staff will help me to keep developing as a player.”
Last weekend Guardiola said City had been “so clear” in their desire to keep Savinho amid the recent transfer speculation.
“At his age, last season he played a lot of minutes,” Guardiola said. “He can play on both sides, right and left, has pace that is unbelievable. So in that term, he’s really good.”
Savinho, capped 13 times by Brazil, has been a long-term project for the City Football Group, signing first for Troyes in 2022 from Atletico Mineiro, and later spending time on loan at another of City’s sister clubs Girona, helping them qualify for the Champions League at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.
City paid £30.8million to bring him to Manchester last July.
“Savinho is still very young, but he has already demonstrated that he possesses the qualities needed to become a truly outstanding player,” City’s director of football Hugo Viana said.
“He has so many excellent attributes. His potential really is limitless. He has superb natural ability, works incredibly hard day in, day out, and he is humble. He is very eager to keep learning and help the team, and his ambition is to be one of the best attacking players in the game.”
