Ian Holloway praised Aaron Drinan’s impressive return from injury to become England’s top scorer after the Irishman grabbed his eighth goal of the season in the 2-0 home win over Bromley.
Ollie Palmer opened the scoring in the seventh minute of the Sky Bet League Two clash, before Drinan’s solo effort put Swindon second with their first clean sheet of the season.
On Drinan, Holloway said: “He’s such a wonderful mover, natural athlete. And I keep telling him ‘you’re much better than you think’.
“Honestly, I’ve got so many great players. I can’t tell you.
“So I’ve lived all of these days worrying and I want them to stop worrying about how good they can be. I want every one of them to believe that I will help them get as good as they’ve ever dreamed of being.”
Drinan’s season ended in February last season with a bad knee injury but Holloway said his form now was a testament to his rehabilitation effort.
The Swindon boss added: “The lad was exceptional when he got injured last year. He’s lived through hell, not knowing whether he was going to get kept on or not.
“And what he did day in, day out, he worked his socks off, and that’s what I love about him.”
Palmer got his first goal for Town after Ryan Tafazolli began a lovely flowing move which saw the former Wrexham man tuck in Joe Snowdon’s cross.
Town doubled their lead when Drinan netted in the 31st minute following another poor kick from goalkeeper Grant Smith.
At the other end Bromley’s Deji Elerewe went close with a header from Mitch Pinnock’s free-kick.
After the break Danny Butterworth had a golden opportunity to make it three following another gift at the back but the winger stumbled trying to round Smith and prodded the ball to Drinan, whose effort was blocked.
Ravens boss Andy Woodman said: “That was the worst 45 minutes I’ve had since I have been at the club. We couldn’t make a pass, didn’t make a tackle, gifted two goals again.
“I can’t keep saying that, because it’s getting pretty boring. Everything we worked on in the week, we chucked out the window and did our own thing.
“We could not have made any more worse decisions in that first 45 minutes all over the pitch.
“And one or two players have got to have a real think about what they’re doing, because it’s nowhere near good enough.”
