Treble Tee tops 38 in Cambridgeshire contention

Ante-post favourite Treble Tee is among 38 horses to stand their ground at the confirmation stage for Saturday’s bet365 Cambridgeshire at Newmarket.

Simon and Ed Crisford’s three-year-old was mentioned as a potential 2000 Guineas contender in the spring, but early-season defeats at Newmarket and Goodwood ended Classic dreams and ultimately led to him being gelded.

Having been narrowly beaten on his next two starts, he opened his account for the season with a dominant victory at Doncaster’s St Leger meeting and is well fancied to follow up under a 4lb penalty in this weekend’s £175,000 feature handicap on the Rowley Mile.

“I think we’ll head to the Cambridgeshire all being well,” said Ed Crisford.

“He’s come out of Doncaster really well and he’s a lovely horse.

“We had Classic ambitions at the beginning of the year but he just had two runs where it went completely wrong. We gave him a summer break and he has come back a completely different horse.

“What we saw in the spring is slowly coming back.”

With recent Sandown scorer Cicero’s Gift and Liberty Lane taken out, the Cambridgeshire weights are now headed by Karl Burke’s Boiling Point.

Fifth Column is a leading contender for John and Thady Gosden after winning four of his six starts this season, with Andrew Balding’s Gladius and Tribal Chief from David Menuisier’s yard also in the mix.
