Connor Hall scores as Brackley beat struggling Sutton

Connor Hall came off the bench to end promoted Brackley’s five-game wait for a National League victory as they edged out struggling Sutton 1-0.

Sutton keeper Jack Sims was called upon for the first time with just three minutes gone, saving Bailey Hobson’s well-struck shot before Morgan Roberts’ effort was deflected wide.

Sims then had to deny Matt Lowe and Zak Brown either side of Jack Wadham’s attempt at the other end, and it was the hosts who went in at the break feeling they were on top despite the scoreline remaining 0-0.

Zak Lilly saw an early second-half volley blocked as the home side pressed once again and Sutton’s Harry Phipps was similarly thwarted, but the crossbar came to the visitors’ rescue after Riccardo Calder’s cross had cannoned off defender Jack Taylor.

Sims kept out Lilly’s 68th-minute header, but he was finally beaten with six minutes remaining when substitute Hall struck to snatch victory.
