Harrogate halt losing streak by beating Shrewsbury

Harrogate ended a run of four straight League Two defeats after Jack Muldoon and Conor McAleny goals secured a convincing 2-0 home triumph over troubled Shrewsbury.

The hosts had equalled their worst run of consecutive EFL losses since promotion from the National League in 2020 going into this contest.

But Simon Weaver’s side made easy work of a visiting team who have now won just two of their last 26 league fixtures.

Muldoon went closest to opening the scoring in a low-key first half with Shrews goalkeeper Elyh Harrison denying him from close range.

The on-loan Manchester United teenager then survived a scare when Will Boyle’s panicked clearance ricocheted towards the visitors’ goal off his back and struck an upright.

Muldoon broke the deadlock in the 65th minute. He got the better of a physical challenge with substitute Aristote Nsiala following Bryn Morris’ searching long pass into the penalty box and showed composure to lift a 15-yard effort over the head of Harrison.

Sub McAleny made the points safe in the 87th minute, drilling into Harrison’s bottom-right corner from the edge of the box.
