Cambridge come from behind to beat Fleetwood

Three goals in eight second-half minutes saw Cambridge come from behind to beat Fleetwood 2-1.

The match was goalless until the 62nd minute when the visitors took the lead, only for the U’s to reply with two quickfire goals.

Cambridge looked the most likely scorers in the first half with Dominic Ball heading a Sullay Kaikai free-kick wide, then hitting the top of the crossbar with another header.

The away side almost went ahead in the 55th minute, only for Jake Eastwood to make a crucial save to turn James Norwood’s effort onto a post.

Fleetwood did break the deadlock when Ball conceded possession and Jordan Davies strode forward before firing a shot beyond Eastwood and into the far corner.

That advantage was to be turned around with remarkable speed, however, as Cambridge struck following Kaikai corners in the 67th and 69th minutes.

The first was cleared to Adam Mayor and his effort from the edge of the box deflected past Jay Lynch.

The next was nodded on towards substitute Shayne Lavery, who stabbed the ball past Lynch from close range.
