Scandinavia heads Leger contenders

Ante-post favourite Scandinavia and dual Derby winner Lambourn headline eight confirmations for Saturday’s Betfred St Leger at Doncaster.

The pair are both trained by Aidan O’Brien, who is responsible for half of the possible field in the final Classic of the season, with Stay True and likely outsider Saratoga also featuring.

Scandinavia is proven to stay the 14-furlong trip having won the Goodwood Cup last time out, while Lambourn would be stepping up having triumphed over a mile and a half at Epsom and the Curragh before a surprise eclipse in the Great Voltigeur Stakes last time out.

Lambourn was fifth that day, with stablemate Stay True a place ahead of him, and he gives the Ballydoyle handler a live third option.

Carmers finished second behind Pride Of Arras in the Voltigeur and he could line up for Paddy Twomey, having also landed the Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot in June.

Andrew Balding has two contenders in Geoffrey Freer winner Furthur and Tarriance, who would be making the leap from handicap company having won his last two.

The Roger Varian-trained Rahiebb, fourth in the Gordon Stakes, completes the list of possibles.
