Alexander Isak joins Premier League’s £100m club in deadline-day move

Alexander Isak joins Premier League’s £100m club in deadline-day move

Alexander Isak’s British-record move to Liverpool on transfer deadline day made him the sixth Premier League player to sign for over £100m.

Here, the PA news agency looks at the Premier League’s previous nine-figure signings as the former Newcastle striker joins the list.

Jack Grealish, Manchester City

August 2021, £100m

The England winger broke new ground with the fee that took him from boyhood club Aston Villa, but struggled to live up to expectations at the Etihad Stadium, with even his best season in 2022-23 producing five league goals and seven assists in 28 appearances. Joined Everton on a season-long loan during the summer.

Enzo Fernandez, Chelsea

February 2023, £106.8m

Isak has surpassed the Argentina World Cup winner for the record up-front fee paid out by a Premier League club.

After a quiet half-season following his move in February 2023, Fernandez has become an increasingly influential part of Chelsea’s side under the management of first Mauricio Pochettino and then Enzo Maresca.

Declan Rice, Arsenal

July 2023, £100m rising to a potential £105m

Signing off from West Ham by captaining them to European success in the Conference League, Rice has gone from strength to strength since. His two seasons in north London have brought 11 Premier League goals and 15 assists, surpassing his totals in seven years with the Hammers, with further eye-catching displays in the Champions League – including a free-kick brace against Real Madrid – and for England.

Moises Caicedo, Chelsea

August 2023, £100m rising to a potential £115m

After excelling at Brighton, the Ecuador international was paired with Fernandez in a £200m-plus midfield as Chelsea beat Liverpool to his services. He was named player of the season by both Chelsea’s players and fans last season as they finished fourth in the table and won the Conference League.

Florian Wirtz, Liverpool

June 2025, £100m rising to a potential £116m

After 18 goals and 19 assists in Bayer Leverkusen’s near-unbeaten 2023-24 season, followed by another 16 and 14 last term, Liverpool pounced with what could have become a Premier League record fee – until Isak’s move raised the bar again. Wirtz has started quietly but the Reds will be delighted if he can emulate the impact of the only other player in Europe’s ‘big five’ leagues with double figures for goals and assists in each of the last two seasons – a certain Mohamed Salah.
