Graham Alexander hails ‘top notch’ Bradford display in shock cup win at Stoke

Manager Graham Alexander described League One Bradford’s latest Carabao Cup giant-killing courtesy of a 3-0 second-round win at Championship leaders Stoke as “brilliant to witness”.

Will Swan’s fourth goal in six games plus firsts of the season for Brad Halliday and George Lapslie made it a superb 50th victory in charge of the Bantams for Alexander.

“The performance was top notch, a different level,” Alexander, whose side beat Blackburn in the first round, said. “From start to finish it was brilliant to witness as a manager.

“I know they made changes but we made changes as well. There was no sustained pressure when we felt we were under the pump.”

In addition to his goal, Swan was also involved in his team’s later strikes.

“He is a really intelligent footballer, brings others into play and is clinical in front of goal,” added Alexander of his in-form marksman. “His quality is top notch.”

Stoke boss Mark Robins didn’t defend his decision to make 10 changes to the side that won at Southampton in the Championship last weekend.

“I could have picked the strongest side but that would have been ridiculous,” said Robins.

“I had a certain hand to play and I chose to play that hand knowing it was going to be a difficult evening. I hoped for more but got what I deserved.

“This competition is almost an extension of a pre-season which is disappointing to have to do. But we park this and move on.”
