Field Of Gold to take on 10 rivals in 2000 Guineas

Ante-post favourite Field Of Gold leads 11 contenders for Saturday’s Betfred 2000 Guineas at Newmarket.

Trained by John and Thady Gosden, Field Of Gold won the Craven Stakes over the Classic course and distance last month, with his three-and-a-half-length win sending him to the head of the market.

Charlie Appleby’s Ruling Court is another leading fancy after running out a six-length winner of the Jumeirah 2000 Guineas at Meydan in March, with the Godolphin handler also fielding Shadow Of Light, winner of both the Middle Park and Dewhurst Stakes last term.

Ruling Court is the choice of first jockey William Buick, with Mickael Barzalona taking the ride on Shadow Of Light.

Godolphin also has a third string in the Saeed bin Suroor-trained Tornado Alert, who is long odds having won only a Newcastle maiden to date.

As expected, Aidan O’Brien did not declare Twain, leaving Dewhurst runner-up Expanded as the only Ballydoyle representative.

Jessica Harrington’s Green Impact and the Joseph O’Brien-trained Scorthy Champ, who landed the National Stakes at two, complete the Irish contenders.

Craven second Wimbledon Hawkeye represents James Owen while fourth-placed Benevento also features, along with Seagulls Eleven and Yah Mo Be There.
