Dundee’s Simon Murray nominated for PFA Scotland Premiership Player of the Year

Dundee forward Simon Murray has been nominated alongside three Celtic players for the PFA Scotland Premiership Player of the Year award.

Hoops trio Daizen Maeda, Callum McGregor and Nicolas Kuhn are all in the running alongside the 33-year-old Dark Blues striker.

Celtic midfielder Arne Engels, Rangers striker Hamza Igamane, Hearts forward James Wilson and Motherwell midfielder Lennon Miller are the four contenders for the Young Player of the Year award.

Murray and Maeda are the Premiership’s joint-highest scorers this term with 16 goals apiece in the league.

Murray, who scored the winner away to Hearts on Saturday, has notched 22 goals in all competitions after joining from Ross County last summer, while Maeda has 33 after stepping in from the wing to become Celtic’s main striker following the departure of Kyogo Furuhashi in January.

McGregor, who won the award in the 2021-22 season, has been nominated after captaining the Parkhead club to a fourth consecutive title.

German winger Kuhn, who was widely deemed Celtic’s best player in the first half of the season, took his tally for the season to 20 goals in all competitions when he scored a double in Saturday’s 5-0 win at Dundee United.

The SWPL 1 Player of the Year award nominees are Hibernian’s Eilidh Adams, Celtic’s Emma Lawton, Rangers’ Katie Wilkinson and Glasgow City’s Samantha Van Diemen.

The winners will be announced at a PFA Scotland Awards dinner in Glasgow on Sunday, May 4.
