Darrell Clarke takes the points despite chaotic ending to Barnsley’s win

Barnsley head coach Darrell Clarke was pleased that his side secured a 4-3 home win against Lincoln but was dissatisfied with how they ended the game.

Goals from Davis Keillor-Dunn, Adam Phillips, Georgie Gent and Max Watters took Barnsley to within four points of the play-off places.

Tendayi Darikwa, Reeco Hackett-Fairchild and Jovon Makama scored for the visitors in a thrilling end but they ran out of time.

Clarke said: “I left the pitch a frustrated man, but inside, I’m happy that we’ve won the game.

“Bad decision-making in that last 15 minutes – which is the story of our season to an extent when we don’t see those moments through – but we are really pleased with the win.

“(I was) really pleased with our physical nature today, the lads put their bodies on the line. We are a little bit depleted at the moment with injuries and suspensions, but the lads dug in. Just in the last 15, they began to tire.

“I never feel I can relax with our boys. I’ve got to be on them all the time.

“They are not dancing around in the changing room because they are disappointed that they didn’t see it through how they would’ve ideally liked. But the game is about winning.

“Fair play to all the boys, it’s been a hell of a response this week. We needed a big week, and we have got that, and now we move on to Tuesday’s game.”

Lincoln head coach Michael Skubala was disappointed with his side’s first-half performance.

He said: “We were too passive in the first half. It was uncharacteristic, making big errors. It’s not like they have had to create a lot to open us up, and then you’re 2-0 down.

“I asked them at half-time to come out and show a bit more character. The last 35 minutes is what I want it to look like and what we all want it to look like. We can’t be like that when it’s two or three nil.”

Skubala also defended his selection choices as James Collins and Sam Clucas were named on the bench, saying: “Sam Clucas was on the bench, but he was being sick. There are always things that are going on behind the scenes.

“It’s a selection thing [re Collins]. We know he can impact the game and score goals, but we have to manage everybody. Ultimately, everyone has to affect the game.

“We ended the game how we wanted to look, but we gave ourselves too much to do, and it’s a really difficult place to come and push for goals.

“We are trying to get that level every week. They know what that looks like, but it’s about doing it from the start and being courageous.”
