Maidenhead moved out of the National League relegation zone as Will de Havilland’s header secured a 1-0 win over Southend at York Road.
The visitors went close to taking the lead just before half-time when Gus Scott-Morris delivered a corner and the ball hit the crossbar.
The deadlock was then broken by the home side in the 56th minute when De Havilland connected with a free-kick to loop a header over Nick Hayes and in.
Tristan Abrahams subsequently attempted to beat Hayes from his own half in the final 10 minutes, sending the ball wide.
Alan Devonshire’s side move up two spots to 20th, a point above the drop zone, while Kevin Maher’s Southend drop a place to 12th.
