Keshi Anderson effort enough as League One leaders Birmingham edge Huddersfield

Keshi Anderson’s second-half strike proved enough as League One leaders Birmingham made it 12 league games unbeaten as they saw off fellow promotion-hopefuls Huddersfield 1-0 at the John Smith’s Stadium.

The visitors will have been the more disappointed of the two sides to go in still goalless at the break after failing to make the most of two of the biggest chances of the first half.

Huddersfield goalkeeper Jacob Chapman denied Lyndon Dykes’ strike to the near post from a narrow angle early on, while Christoph Klarer headed over the crossbar from close range off Alex Cochrane’s crossed free-kick.

But it did not take long for the league leaders to go ahead after the restart, with Anderson’s brilliant bit of chest control on the edge of the box teeing him up perfectly to smash a dipping effort past the helpless Chapman.

Injuries to Birmingham’s Tomoki Iwata and Huddersfield’s Tom Lees made for a lengthy period of stoppage time, but the Blues were able to see out their victory with goalkeeper Ryan Allsop remaining almost-entirely untroubled.
