Fleetwood and Bromley unable to break each other down

A failure to finish proved both sides’ undoing as Fleetwood and Bromley played out a 0-0 draw.

The visitors had the better of the first half, while the Cod Army were on top after the break but wasted chances at both ends meant a point apiece.

Fleetwood were grateful to goalkeeper David Harrington for keeping them in contention at the break. Harrington rescued his side when they surrendered possession close to their own area, denying Ben Thompson and Danny Imray before the ball was scrambled away for a corner.

That delivery was half-cleared and, when it came back in, Harrington produced another fine save from Michael Cheek.

Lillywhites defender Omar Sowunmi also found Harrington an obstacle too far when he got in behind the defence, the keeper standing firm to deny him.

Fleetwood produced little in attack, with Ryan Graydon sending one effort into the side netting and another way over.

The hosts were much improved after the break and should have made more of the openings they created. The best of these came to Matty Virtue, who headed agonisingly wide from Danny Mayor’s cross.

Opportunities came and went as time ebbed away, with Cheek and Levi Amantchi firing wide for Bromley and Mark Helm and Rhys Bennett unable to turn in crosses for Fleetwood. Bennett did ensure a point for the hosts with a superb block when Cheek had a golden chance with stoppage-time looming.

And, with neither team able to find a breakthrough, the match ended goalless.
