Mansfield continued their excellent start to the season with a 2-0 victory at Northampton.
The Stags had goalkeeper Christy Pym to thank for a string of impressive saves before second-half goals from Will Evans and Aaron Lewis secured all three points.
Northampton dominated the early exchanges and wasted two excellent chances to move in front, Mitch Pinnock denied by Pym inside the first minute before an unmarked Cameron McGeehan volleyed over.
Lee Burge kept out Lee Gregory at the other end, but Northampton continued to create the better chances, only to be let down by poor finishing.
McGeehan failed to beat Pym when through one-on-one and the in-form Mansfield goalkeeper also kept out Tariqe Fosu’s penalty shortly before half-time.
The visitors took the lead within two minutes of the restart as Will Evans climbed highest to head in Stephen Quinn’s cross.
Gregory hit the post after darting through the home defence while Pym continued to be inspired at the other end, thwarting McGeehan, Tyler Roberts and Luke Mbete.
Pym also tipped Samy Chouchane’s free-kick around the post before Mansfield’s victory was wrapped up by Lewis’ well-struck late strike.
