A TANTALISING showdown is set to take place in the men’s InsureMyHouse.ie Presidents’ Cup final withthe clash of Limerick Sport Eagles and UCD Marian, tipping off at 2.30pm this Saturday, January 20.

Eagles have already fought hard to secure their final spot after an incredibly close semi-final against Moy Tolka Rovers in Cork, winning by only three points.

Head coach for Eagles Matt Hall spoke about the semi-final win stating: “Look in one way it was good that the game was so close and we were able to come out on top of it, that’s good for any side's confidence.

“After just signing Sam Finlay the Tuesday before the semi, we hope to have used these last two weeks to develop as more of a team unit as everyone, including him, gel more as a team.”

Sport Eagles were without one American player for a portion of the season and without the addition of Finlay, Matt said the team ‘would not be able to compete with UCD Marian.’

“It was vitally important to get Sam in. It is always a bit of a gamble bringing in American players but we are delighted with him and after scoring 31 points in his first game with us we couldn’t ask for much more.”

Captain of Sport Eagles, Jason Killeen, missed the semi-final due to an ankle injury but is hoping to be back on the court for the cup final.

The 6ft 11 center is extremely familiar with their opponents, UCD Marian, after spending four seasons playing for local Dublin rivals Templeogue.

Jason went on to add: “I would have played against UCD Marian plenty of times and I know them quite well. They are a super team, they got demoted out of the Super League last year so there is a real effort in the club to try and get back up to that level.

“It was difficult for me to sit on the sidelines and not be able to play the semi-final, the Cup is so competitive and all you want to do is get on the court.

“From my point of view as the captain it was really encouraging to see how well the lads did under pressure in that game and how they held their composure throughout. I am looking forward to getting back on the court for this final and to hopefully bring back a cup for Limerick Sport Eagles.”
