TREATY United's bid to secure a promotion play-off place in the SSE Airtricity League First Division reaches a critical point this Saturday as they welcome champions Galway United to the Markets Field for a 3pm kick-off.

Treaty sit two points off Athlone Town who occupy the final promotion play-off position ahead of their penultimate fixture of the First Division regular season.

Tommy Barrett's Treaty side will complete their programme of league games away to Waterford FC on Friday, October 20.

Treaty maintained their hopes of reaching the play-offs for a third successive year when defeating Finn Harps 2-0 at the Markets Field on Friday night last.

Treaty manager Barrett believes his side will likely need to take at least four points from their final two league games to have a shot at making the play-offs.

“We two really tough games left,” Barrett said. “Is it (making play-offs) realistic? Probably not. Is it possible? It is possible. But it is going to take at least four points.

“The lads will keep on fighting; they're a great bunch.”

Treaty face into a mouthwatering home tie against John Caulfield's Galway on Saturday knowing they can overtake fifth-placed Athlone Town if they better the Midlanders’ result in Ballybofey.

Galway United scored an impressive 3-1 victory over second-placed Waterford FC in the First Division on Tuesday evening at Eamonn Deacy Park. Limerick native Edward McCarthy scored two goals for Galway.
