BALLYLANDERS captured the Lyons of Limerick LWSSL Division Two Cup with a 1-0 win against local rivals Mungret Regional, but it was heartbreak for Kilmallock as they lost out to Listowel Celtic after extra-time in the Division One Cup decider.

In the first cup game at the Markets Field on Sunday, it was end to end between Ballyladners and Mungret regional, with both sides playing attacking football. Neither squad were able to be separated in the opening half, remaining nill all at the break.

With the second half underway, Mungret began to dominate with Leah Carroll creating a number of chances. However it was Ballylanders who opened the scoring from a corner kick from captain Maria Cronin whose cross found the head of the in-coming Briodhna Lee who sent the ball to the back of the net in the 55th min.

With time running out and Mungret creating several chances they just couldn't break down a solid well organised Ballylanders team who won out 1-0 in the end.

It was an extra-time affair in the division one cup final between Listowel Celtic and Kilmallock United, which saw the Kerry side winning 4-3.

It was Listowel Celtics that started the better of the two sides with a beautiful strike from Melanie Higgins. This lead was doubled after 30 minutes when Kelly Enright found the target to leave them 2-0 ahead at the break.

Kilmallock were not deterred by the early goals scored by the Kerry side and scored through Maryrose Hourigan, almost immediately once the second-half started.

Higgins was a huge threat for Listowel and netted her second goal of the day after 81 minutes to put them 3-1 ahead.

The Limerick side replied straight away from the restart after Listowel's goal with Emma Barrett netting Kilmallock's second goal and on the stroke of full-time they found the equalising score from Niamh O'Donoghue to send the final to extra-time.

Tired bodies headed back out onto the field and with penalties looming it was once against Melanie Higgins that came to the rescue for Listowel to score a hat-trick and secure the cup for her side in a heartbreaking result for Kilmallock.
