YOUNGSTERS from a Limerick kickboxing club have picked up a hugely impressive haul of medals at the prestigious European Championship which took place in Scotland.
Nineteen fighters from Limerick Combat Gym travelled from their base in the Queen of Peace Community Centre at Roxboro Road on Limerick's southside to the World Kickboxing Association hosted event in Motherwell. And every single one of the talented group returned with medals to show for their efforts.
The victorious kickboxers beat competitors from across the continent at the tournament which was held in Motherwell, Scotland earlier this month. Senior instructor Kieran Honan said: “It's just unbelievable. They all did exceptionally well there. “I couldn't be prouder of them. For some of these guys, it was their first time fighting in a big competition for them.”
In all, an impressive total of eight gold, seven silver and 14 bronze medals were picked up by the talented group of club members from the Limerick kickboxing club.
“This club is really important, especially for the surrounding areas. We have all walks of life here. We have people from the Travelling community, Polish people, Ukrainians who have come in the last year. People come from as far as Ennis to train,” said Kieran.
These talented young sportspeople have a bright future ahead of them. New members are always being sought fror the club, Google Limerick Combat Gym for more information.
