FAI JUNIOR CUP:

Fairview Rangers 4 Aisling Annacotty 2

FAIRVIEW Rangers recorded a superb comeback to knock joint Premier League leaders, Aisling Annacotty out of the FAI Junior Cup in a thrilling encounter at the Fairgreen on Saturday evening.

With a 6.30pm kick off the end of the game overlapped the start of the Ireland rugby side's World Cup game, but a riveting cup tie kept the fans firmly in place until the final whistle.

Fairview’s current woes, where they lost a number of key players, are well documented but Paul O’Donnell’s men showed huge character to knock a superb Aisling side out of their stride.

The victory was even more impressive considering they had to fight back from a 2-1 half time deficit to seal the win.
Fairview took the lead with a superb goal. Sublime skill from Filip Mostowy created the opening for Liam Quinn to hit a first-time volley past Josh Coady.

Aisling recovered well. Kevin Barry was creating havoc in the Fairview rearguard and the striker’s excellent through ball put Leon Daly in to fire home the equaliser.

Adam Foley pulled free of his marker to collect at the back post and he fired into the far corner to send Aisling in ahead at the break.

The second half began with no hint that Fairview were going to burst into life but if ever substitutions changed a game, this was it.

Aisling replaced the tiring Barry while the home side sprung Kane Connolly and Josh Quinlivan.

The latter tied up the game with a well struck volley from a clever Quinn pass.

With Barry out of the fray, the Fairview defence pushed forward more and Cian McNamara tilted the tie back in Fairview’s favour when he burst through the Aisling defence and traded passes with Kane Connolly before firing home.

With time running out, Aisling went all out for the equaliser and were caught when from a quick breakaway Quinlivan latched onto Duggan’s clearance and centred for Connolly to put the nine-time winners into the next round.

Corbally were full value for their win against the Premier side, who just couldn’t find their rhythm.

The game was scoreless at the break but midway through the second half a clearance from a corner fell to Ian O'Donoghue and the former Dines favourite played a ball over the top for Jack Fitzgerald who lobbed the outrushing keeper to score the only goal of the game.

The local derby between Hyde Rgs and Prospect was as close as you would expect in such encounter before Hyde snatched victory with a late goal.

Calum Murphy put Hyde in front with a cracking goal but Prospect top scorer had the sides level by half time.
An evenly fought second half saw the game heading for extra time before Evan Shine pounced on a rebound to blast in from close range.
