LIMERICK teenager Katie Lawlee has once again proven her class on the International stage after captaining the Republic of Ireland U17 women's team to a draw against Portugal in their third and final friendly of the campaign.

The game began evenly with both goals coming in the second-half of the game. In the 56th minute, a penalty was given to Portugal after Lillie Quinlivan-Coulson was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box. Portugal’s Vicente slotted the ball away into the left-hand side to put Portugal ahead.

Lawlee, who signed for Treaty Utd back in January of this year, scored the equalising penalty of the game after 73 minutes of play.

This tops off an incredible week for the Hazelwood College Dromcollogher student who also scored the third goal for Ireland in their fixture against Scotland last weekend.

This draw against a competitive Portugal side gives this team a lot of positives heading into the UEFA European Championship Qualifiers in October.

Katie is no stranger to International duty after being picked for the U16 and U17 women's squads after impressing in the Treaty women's academy.

Lawlee originally played with the Ballingarry club and scored eight goals in her first season at national league level. Katie was an integral part of manager Marie Curtin’s under-17 side that reached the Tier One quarter-final that season.

Another Limerick player, Amy Tierney who originally played for Aishling Annacotty, featured off the bench after 78 minutes.
