Limerick woman Sarah Lavin now holds the 100m Irish record
LIMERICK'S Sarah Lavin has set another Irish record with a stunning run in Switzerland on Monday night.
Lisnagry woman Lavin, of Emerald AC, broke Phil Healy's national 100m record with a terrific time of 11.27 in Bellinzona.
The Limerick sprinter finished second in the Gala dei Castelli, a Continental Tour Silver meeting, behind Italy’s Zaynab Dosso who crossed in 11.15.
Lavin now holds both the national 100m and 100m hurdles records following on from her superb 12.62 at the World Championships in Budapest which broke Derval O'Rourke’s long-standing national hurdles record.
Twenty nine-year-old Lavin has enjoyed a terrific year, setting personal bests for the 100m hurdles no fewer than four times this year.
The Limerick woman, who is coached by Noelle Morrissey, reached the semi-finals of the 100m hurdles at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest last month where she finished fifth in her new Irish record time.
The run placed Lavin in 11th place overall in the world ahead of next summer's Olympic Games in Paris.
